ABOUT US

Allen Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) helps under-resourced families find safe, affordable places to live. We run housing programs funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and serve families in Allen, Auglaize, Mercer, Putnam, and Van Wert counties.

We offer rental help through Public Housing and Section 8 programs. AMHA treats everyone fairly, no matter their race, color, religion, sex, family size, disability, or where they come from.

A five-member Board of Commissioners helps lead AMHA. Board members serve five-year terms and are chosen by local courts and the Mayor of Lima.

Right now, AMHA manages 205 homes across Allen County for low-income families. We also manage Furl Williams Apartments, which has 40 units for elderly or disabled residents. Through our Section 8 program, we help more than 1,000 families pay for rental housing.

OUR MISSION

Allen Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) strives to create a thriving community by offering quality, affordable housing and pathways to self-sufficiency for those we serve.

OUR VISION

Transforming lives and communities, one family at a time.

Our Programs

Housing Choice Voucher Section 8 Program

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program helps very low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities afford safe and decent homes. This program lets families choose their own place to live—like a house, townhouse, or apartment—in neighborhoods they like. They don’t have to live in public housing to get help.

Single Room Occupancy (SRO)

The SRO program offers housing for single, homeless men at the Lima YMCA Annex. This housing is set up like a dorm, with shared spaces. To apply, you must first get a referral form from AMHA. Then, you can apply at the YMCA Annex to join the waiting list. The SRO waiting list is always open.

The Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program

This special program is for families already in the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program. The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program helps families set goals, find better jobs, and become more independent.

Section 8 Homeownership Program

This special program is for families already in the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program. The Section 8 Homeownership Program helps families use their vouchers to buy a home instead of renting.

Public Housing Program

AMHA manages over 200 scattered-site homes and 40 one-bedroom apartments at Furl Williams for low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities. To apply, complete an application to join the waitlist—our Intake Department will contact you when your name reaches the top.
